Which animal lives the longest?

Quahog Clam

Most boring pet ever!

You can’t take it for a walk, or form much of a bond with it, but the Quahog Clam is regarded as the longest living animal.

Climate researchers at Bangor University in the United Kingdom found a clam in waters off the northern coast of Iceland. It had 405 growth rings in its shell, meaning that it was 405 years old. At the time Shakespeare was publishing The Merry Wives of Windsor and the Twelfth Night was being performed in London.

While the mollusk survived wars, empires and natural disasters, it couldn’t survive human curiosity. It died when the researchers counted its rings.

Short answer: A Quahog Clam lived happily for 405-years until scientists killed it in the name of science.
